Bacon and Leek Risotto with Poached Egg from bon appetit

This has become a new favourite. You'll need a bit of time and you'll have to "baby" throughout the process while paying close attention but it's well worth it.

You'll need:

•6 large eggs
•5 cups low-salt chicken broth
•1 tablespoon olive oil
•6 slices thick-cut bacon, cut crosswise into 1/2-inch pieces
•2 cups thinly sliced leeks (white and pale green parts only; about 2 large)
•1 1/2 cups arborio rice or medium-grain white rice (about 10 ounces)
•3/4 cup dry white wine
•3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh Italian parsley
•1 tablespoon butter
•2 tablespoons finely grated Parmesan cheese
•Fresh Italian parsley leaves (for garnish)
•Additional finely grated Parmesan cheese (for garnish)

You'll do:
•Bring large skillet of water just to simmer over medium-low heat. Sprinkle water with salt. Working with 1 egg at a time, crack into small bowl and slide egg into simmering water. Cook eggs until whites are cooked through but yolks are still runny, 3 to 4 minutes. Using slotted spoon, carefully transfer poached eggs to medium bowl filled with ice water. DO AHEAD Eggs can be made up to 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate in same bowl of ice water.

•Bring broth to simmer in medium saucepan; cover to keep warm. Heat oil in heavy large saucepan over medium heat. Add bacon and cook until crisp, stirring occasionally. Using slotted spoon, transfer bacon to paper towels to drain. Add leeks to drippings in pan; cook until soft but not brown, stirring often, 4 to 5 minutes. Transfer 2 generous tablespoonfuls leeks to small bowl; reserve for garnish. Add rice to pan; stir 1 to 2 minutes. Add wine; stir until absorbed, about 2 minutes. Add 1D2 cup warm broth to saucepan; stir until broth is absorbed. Repeat adding broth and stirring until rice is tender but still firm to bite and sauce is creamy, stirring almost constantly, about 23 minutes total. Add bacon, chopped parsley, butter, and 2 tablespoons cheese. Season to taste with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

•Meanwhile, heat poached eggs in medium skillet of simmering water just until heated through, 1 to 2 minutes.

•Divide risotto among 6 bowls. Top risotto in each bowl with poached egg. Sprinkle egg with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with parsley leaves, additional cheese, and reserved leeks.

Philosophy Classic Fudge Cake recipe

Long time no post! I just wanted to post a recipe I tried last night. It was a big hit at the party I went to. I have ordered the shower gel from Sephora but decided to go ahead and try the cake first. If the product smells anything like the cake tastes then I will be a happy girl. I screwed up the chocolate frosting big time (watch out with the microwave!!) so I opted to do a half batch of the chocolate ganache I made when I did the vanilla cake recipe.

You'll need:
-2 1/4 cups flour
-2 tsp. baking soda
-1/2 tsp. salt
-1/2 c. butter
-2 1/2 cups brown sugar
-3 eggs
-1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
-3 1/2 oz unsweetened chocolate, melted
-3/4 cup sour cream
-1 cup boiling water

You'll do:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Sift together dry ingredients—set aside.

2. In large bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until combined.

3. Add one egg at a time, beat 1 minute after each.

Melt that chocolate.

Boil that water.

4. Beat in vanilla and chocolate.

5. Mix in sour cream and dry ingredients until combined.

6. Stir in boiling water.

7. Bake in greased 9 x 13 pan at 350 degrees for 35 min. (I used a bunt cake again). LET COOL!!! Seriously, if you jump the gun your cake will fall apart. It's very soft.

To pass the time as I waited for the cake to bake I finished my prep work on the kabobs I was bringing to a BBQ that night!

Then decorate as you see fit! I adorned it with confectioner's sugar, raspberries and cherries.

Philosophy Vanilla Birthday Cake recipe

After many showers, looking down at my "Vanilla Birthday Cake" shower gel by Philosophy (killer, btw), I decided it was about time I tried the recipe. I die for the smell of the product... so the cake must taste damn near it. The ingredients were all things I already had in my pantry. Other than the butter flavouring which you can't buy in Canada... and, honestly, no one should buy, as it's really not good for you. By leaving it out I found the end result to be delicious (I'm not sure how much more delectable it could have been, honest). I decided to top it with some chocolate ganache, sliced almonds and strawberries. I served it with whip cream which just took it over the edge. If I believed in such place, I would say this was as close to Heaven as you can get on this earth. Not to toot my own horn (but people really don't do that enough in general).

You'll need:
3 cups of flour
1/2tsp salt
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup margarine
1/4 cup cooking oil
3 cups of sugar
5 eggs
1/2 cup of evaporated milk
1/3 cup of water
1tbsp vanilla
1tbsp butter flavouring (optional, i say leave out!!)

You'll do:
1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Beat margarine, butter and oil for 30 seconds.

2. Add sugar, beat until fluffy.

3. Add one egg at a time, beat 1 minute after each.

4. Combine milk, water and flavourings.

5. Pour into your pan of choice. I went with a bunt cake.

What to do while you wait the hour and a half bake time?

Dye your hair, mani/pedi, drink a bottle of wine and watch Vicky Christina Barcelona... again.

Now that you look fantastic, get your cake out.

Ganache time! While your cake cools for 15 minutes get started on the most rewarding time conscious topping ever

You'll need:
1 1/2 cups bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup unsalted butted

You'll do:

1. Place the chopped chocolate in a large (preferably stainless steel) bowl.

2. In a large, high sided saucepan, heat cream and butter over medium high heat, stirring frequently, until it just starts to boil. Watch carefully as it will boil over pan in a matter of seconds. Immediately remove from heat and pour over chopped chocolate.

3. Stir until chocolate is completely melted and mixture is smooth. Cool completely and then store in refrigerator. Ganache can be reheated in a double boiler over simmering water.

Now cake decorating time. I took a spatula and scooped and poured the chocolate evenly around the top, repeating until it starts to drip over the sides of the bunt cake. Try not to let too much spill into the centre. Smooth around the sides of the cake until all of the cake is covered.

Overall I was really happy with the Philosophy Vanilla Birthday Cake recipe! It was sweet but not so sweet I couldn't handle eating a whole slice (which is often the case). The chocolate ganache made it really rich. The shower gel/shampoo actually smells much sweeter than the cake. On that note, I am obsessed with it. I only wish the smell was more noticeable when I use it on my body. It makes my skin really smooth but you only smell it fresh out of the bottle.

This week has been the very definition of rollercoaster. After many sleepless nights and incredible stress over my career and the direction it will be taking, I have earned a night out on the town. What I learned about myself is that I can stick up for myself and what I deserve. And every one should. It's still very much a man's world and it is very easy to get taken advantage of in the business and commerce field. Fact is, if you don't speak up, no one will hear you. Over the past two years I've learned that the hard way. But now I'm ready to play hard ball. After a lot of ups and downs, the week ended on the highest of notes. I couldn't be happier and I'm just so... proud of myself. Raise your voice. Only you know what you deserve and you can't expect anyone else to look after your best interests. Tell them what you deserve. Take charge of your own future, emotions and security.

Yes, two recipe posts in a row! I have been much less interested in fashion these days and much more focused on food and beverage. Been naturally reprioritizing things I focus my time and energy on. Picked this recipe. This one took under half an hour to prepare and it was easy to manage by myself. I fed 5 people with it, but I did have enough for one more.

You'll need:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Pinch nutmeg
12 ounces Gruyere, grated (5 cups)
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan
16 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed
Dijon mustard
8 ounces baked ham, sliced but not paper thin

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

2. Melt the butter over low heat in a small saucepan and add the flour all at once, stirring with a wooden spoon for 2 minutes. Slowly pour the hot milk into the butter–flour mixture and cook, whisking constantly, until the sauce is thickened. Off the heat add the salt, pepper, nutmeg, 1/2 cup grated Gruyere, and the Parmesan and set aside.

3. Toast the bread (I chose Sourdough), placing the slices on 2 baking sheets and bake for 5 minutes. Turn each slice and bake for another 2 minutes, until toasted.

4. Lightly brush half the toasted breads with mustard, add a slice of ham to each, and sprinkle with half the remaining Gruyere. Top with another piece of toasted bread. Slather the tops with the cheese sauce (I skipped this step), sprinkle with the remaining Gruyere, and bake the sandwiches for 5 minutes, or until the topping is bubbly and lightly browned. Serve hot.

I served the sandwhiches with a french walnut oil salad and Malbec red wine.

jambalaya slow cooker recipe

The slow cooker is the working person's best friend (particularly the single one). Found this recipe that I've been wanting to try. I got up at 8 yesterday and spent about 30 minutes of prep. When I got home from a long day of showing houses (and selling some waterfront!) I came home to the most amazing smell. Another half hour and my girlfriend's arrived to enjoy with me. This does have some heat to it so if you're not into spice I would move on... lol.

You'll need:
- 1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cut into 1 inch cubes
- 1 pound andouille sausage, sliced (any kind of sausage will do, though)
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 2 teaspoons dried parsley
- 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
- 1 can diced tomatoes with juice
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 large green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 pound frozen cooked shrimp (no tails)

1. In a slow cooker, mix the chicken, sausage, tomatoes with juice, onion, green bell pepper, celery, and broth. Season with oregano, parsley, Cajun seasoning, cayenne pepper, and thyme.

Fresh in the pot.

2. Cover, and cook 7 to 8 hours on Low, or 3 to 4 hours on High.

After 4 hours.

3. Stir in the shrimp during the last 30 minutes of cook time.

Shrimp & rice prep time.

4. After you add the shrimp to the slow cooker start making the white rice (follow the instructions on the bag, I like to add a table spoon of butter and salt).

Serve with bread and riesling!

This is an incredibly easy, cheap and tasty snack. All you need is strawberries, a small bowl of sour cream and another of brown sugar. All it takes is dipping at will.

I watched this tonight and found it really endearing. I do love me some Zack, though. The outtakes were especially funny. Amazing watching a gifted comedian just come out with the best lines seemingly out of nowhere. Such an incredible talent.

Had an amazing Valentines with 2 amazing friends. The night consisted of appies; smoked salmon and cream cheese, baked brie, stuffed avacados, and crackers. We then retired to the hot tub for girl gab (which included more compliments and kind words than a girl can take without crying). Too much wine. Cigarettes. Followed by my speciality: crepes. By then I was absolutely too drunk to take photos so unfortunately you will have to just imagine how divine they were with their chocolate hazelnut and fresh sliced bananas, kiwis and strawberries. After that we attempted to watch How to Loose a Guy in 10 days but... unfortunately we passed out due to our red wine over indulgence. Upstairs we went to pass out and cuddle in bed! All in all... the most perfect Valentines to date.

This was after our lovely hostest had dressed for sleepy time. She had a real knock out dress on before this.

I just want to "holler" to all the strong independant amazon women out there that make their own happiness.

Bad case of insomnia/i-don't-want-to-go-to-sleep-because-then-it's-tomorrow so i made this short video of the candles beside my tub the other night.

Snapped this before I got changed for my date last night. This time 3 years ago you couldn't FORCE me on a date. I dated around for about a year and was tired of the "interview" and constant disappointment. I was the one-date-wonder and subsequently the master of the "Ignore" button on my blackberry. I took 2 years off from actual dates. But this past year I've gotten back on the horse and with a fresh attitude and perspective. Walk into every date as a new learning experience, a chance to connect with a human, and with zero expectations, just an open mind. Don't set yourself up for a let down by picturing your life with this new guy and how perfect for you he could be. Don't over analyze everything he says. Just connect. No pressure, on you or your date.

After all, a stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet.

I have a love/loathe relationship with Free People. Although some of their pieces are completely impractical, for the most part their collection is beautiful and feminine. The real loathe comes in when I see a $150 dress that I fall in love with (or a $650 leather coat)... but it always crosses my mind that the vintage store downtown will likely have the same piece for about a 10th of the price. I'm not a girl that struggles with paying big bucks for big style, but the part I have a hard time coming to terms with is when I can find the exact same thing, often times of better quality as it's already stood the test of time, for much less.

This was one of the treasures I picked up when I was in Maui. It was from the shop owner's private collection and dates back to the 1800's (apparently). Because I was buying so many pieces he gave it to me for the "low price" of $275. I've worn it everyday since then and really believe I'll treasure it for always.

MAC's Hang Up Lipstick

Got new lipstick in the mail today. Ordering makeup online is a risky game but so far MAC hasn't disappointed me. I don't know if it's because I don't particularly care if a colour is "right for my colouring" or "suites my face" or if it doesn't conform to all the rules fashion and beauty magazines have told me I should stick to. I wear lipstick because it's fun, expressive and eye catching. Honestly if I'm feeling a shade on the website's swatch, I don't even think to myself "Will this look good on me?" I just go with my gut when I'm shopping for lipstick. I don't believe you can go wrong.

I found this amazing jewerly store in Makawao. It was an hour drive from where I was staying but I went 3 separate times for more pieces. Everything in there was stunning and authentic and from this guy's private collection from decades of travelling India and Tibet and Nepal etc.

Maui is by far one of the most beautiful, perfect and relaxing places I have ever been. I would spend the rest of my days there if I could be afforded the opportunity.

The new closet is all but installed, save for a few shoe shelves, and I've started to fill it up. Combined with my current dresser I actually have excess storage space. Guess I better get shopping to fill it up.

Made a Chicken Bouillabaisse the other night. I might have been a bit heavy handed on the saffron threads but received no complaints. It was a really simple dish to whip up, made my house fill up with a hearty smell and was a great comfort food as the snow came down outside.

Speaking of snow... I'm running away from it. My flight leaves for Maui tomorrow at 6:30pm. See ya, suckers!

Oh, but recommend to me anywhere I should eat or shop or adventure while I'm there! I have 8 days to fill at my leisure.

gourmet pizza recipe

I had a dinner party this past weekend and wanted something easy to make for a large group of people. It was a huge hit and took about 45 minutes to prepare. My guests hung out with me in the kitchen as I whipped it up so it was a fun, social event as well. Invite them each to participate in some chopping or frying.

You'll need:
- pizza crust (I used Boboli)
- 4 avocados
- 3 onions
- 2 chicken breasts
- pinch of basil
- handful of sun dried tomatoes
- 5 mushrooms
- brie
- minced garlic
- olive oil
- butter
- garlic alfredo sauce (call me crazy, but I wanted something different, so I grabbed one of these)

Prepare each of your toppings separately. Preheat the oven to 450F.
1. Slice avocado. This is what I use and it works like a charm. Makes a great stocking stuffer for the chef in your life, too!
2. Cut the chicken into bite sized pieces for stirfrying. Start frying in a pan with a bit of the olive oil, butter, a teaspoon of minced garlic, and a pinch of basil. After it's started to brown throw in the sliced onions for more flavour.
3. Slice the mushrooms and fry separately with a teaspoon of minced garlic, olive oil and butter.
4. Brush on a thin layer of olive oil and then spread a thin layer of the garlic alfredo sauce on the pizza crust (on a baking sheet)
5. Put the chicken and onion combo on the crust first. Now place the avocado, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, and then blanket the whole pizza with thin slices of brie evenly as a top layer.
6. Cook in the oven for 8-10 minutes.
7. ENJOY!

I recommend having some caesar and ranch dip for your guests if they want that extra flavour. But trust me... there is no shortage of taste in each bite!

Had an amazing trip to the west coast of Vancouver Island. The resort was stunning. I drank tons of wine, ate delicious meal after delicious meal, storm watched, had a fantastic pedicure and hour long massage, walked on Long Beach and felt the stress of home fade away. Hit the streets in this yesterday. I was nearly run over by huge groups of trick or treaters hitting each shop up the main drag. I was on the hunt for the perfect house warming present (I was successful) before heading home to dress my little sister up as an evil fairy. She was so cute, I nearly died. I had a couple of girlfriends over and we wore black and drank wine and watched back to back horror movies. Not a single trick or treater came to my door! A major dissapointment.

Except that there was lots of candy left over for us!

You wouldn't believe how comfortable these MIZWICKI boots are. I wore them for 12 hours straight the other day with little to no pain at the end of it. So far I've only worn them over straight leg jeans... I'm a bit hesitant to bust out the over the knee boots with a micro mini but... when the right occasion calls for it I might just be tempted to make the bold move.

In TV news, if you aren't watching HBO's Boardwalk Empire, start. Seriously, you won't regret it. The acting is superb and the costumes, settings and filming style are so visually appealing.

tokyo police club

My friends and I arrived at the bar over an hour before the show was set to start so it was pretty empty. When we got there I recognized the band in the corner having a few drinks. I know the opening band so we got to hang out on the stage with them. They played a great set before Tokyo Police Club took the stage. Seriously incredible live, really into the crowd, had great presence and energy and played for over two hours. I spent the whole two hours front and centre dancing my ass off. Why I wore 4 1/2 inch heels is beyond me but I suffered through. The bar was packed and the vibe was just... awesome. They played two extra songs and it was a really interactive experience, the whole crowd sang along and clapped to the beat.

When I saw the set list at Dave's feet I was shocked at how many songs they were willing to give us. They played most of their 2010 album, Champ, which was appreciated by all, plus a few older songs including a Weezer cover.

If you ever get the chance to see these guys live... don't pass on it!

Wearing my new lipstick I bought while on vacation last week. I usually avoid Frosts, but this shade was just too cool to pass on. It's bold without being obnoxious (which my lip stick choices tend to be) so I can get away with it in broad daylight. Threw this get up together (including my new J Brands and the Vince sweater I hunted down... both from Shop Bop) and just bummed around downtown enjoying a sunny fall day. Had 6 girls over on Wednesday for our weekly dinner@my house tradition. We did pesto salmon (caught by Rach's dad!), stuffed red peppers with jasmine rice and shrimp, oven roast potatoes and a spinach salad. For dessert was vanilla strawberry cupcakes. And of course we polished off 5 bottles of wine through the course of the meal.

i mentioned before I'd ordered this Mink Pink dress from Shop Bop, and I'm so glad I did!! I love the fit and the fabric is so soft and stretchy. I had also promised a makeup post... which I never got around to (typical!). Here is the lipstick I wanted to share with you guys in action. It's fun and bold but not overpowering.

Earlier this week I caught the Pilot episode for Nikita on the CW and fell in love with her wardrobe. The whole show packed a pretty good punch! Alexander McQueen, Gucci, and Christian Louboutin all in the first ep. I can get my fashion and action fix all in one spot every week! As soon as the episode ended I hit the internet to track down the sweater the title character was wearing in the last scene and purchased it this morning along with a dress and jean leggings.

MAC'S Spice it Up

The new Prada shades in action! Luckily we still have a bit of summer here so I will get to wear them for a bit. It was really windy when I took these, though. I have had a few comments about my necklaces. The shorter one was an Etsy find last year, it's a bullet with a crystal. The longer one was bought in a little boutique downtown, it's a hollowed out bone and functions as a whistle. Unfortunately, when I've been drinking too much I sort of go to town with it. Not everyone loves that necklace.

I have also been asked for different ways to wear the Falken Clog boots. I honestly think the possibilities are endless! I have worn them with shorts, skirts, dresses, skinnies, trousers, and so on. Here I paired them with thigh high socks and a mini skirt. Because I was a bit riske on the bottom, I kept it demure and modest on top. I took the photos in a bit of a hurry so the lighting's not the best... but you get the picture.

Tonight I'm having an in night consisting of wine, nail painting, hair dying, waxing, etc, all with two movies I haven't seen in years. Very excited to pop the dvds in and start the night's festivities!

Long time no update! Been really busy soaking in the good weather. I just returned from a short vacation down to Washington state (it has such a special place in my heart). Did a bit of retail damage but nothing compared to my casino damage! I am a big Black Jack addict. One of my many vices. The night before I left I went to my friend's basement show. Stayed up way too late and probably drank way too much but it was a great time. Packing the next morning at 6:00am wasn't the most fun. I wasn't too concerned though, I knew I'd be able to buy anything I forgot.

It's one of my best friend's birthday coming up in September, so I grabbed these Ray Ban New Wayfarers for her. I think the colour will be perfect against her hair and skin tone.

My brother moved into my place last week and it's been awesome so far (other than the fact he gets up at 4:30am for his shift and it sometimes wakes me up!!). I went for a walk around the marina with a friend last week. It was a really eerie night, with so many forest fires on the mainland the smoke has made it's way over our Island. Luckily it's all cleared up now.

The past week has been so busy and full of fun and laughter. Probably too much sun and too much booze but that's what summer is about. Lots of meals out, trips to the lake or river or beach, bonfires, fireworks, wine on picnic blankets, bbq parties, bowlng, roadtrips, sunning and best of all, lots of friends coming into town for weekend visits. Summer 2010 is shaping up to be one of the best yet.

I bought a Canon Rebel T1i on Friday and have been having loads of fun with it. So much more user friendly and travel friendly than my 10D.

Just got back from an awesome trip to the always hospitable Vancouver! Saw a ton of amazing old friends who I missed dearly. Caught MGMT in concert at the Commodore, spent a day in the sun at Jericho Beach, and then the following day was spent seaside again at Stanley Park. Well, I'm going on a first date tonight with someone I.... drumroll, please... met online. This is my first "blind" date in over 2 years and my first online meeting. Please, send good vibes my way because I honestly have no idea what to expect! The most I'm hoping for is an interesting person I can have comfortable conversation with. The rest is gravy!

It's really hard to dress for business in this heat without baring too much skin. I'm not used to heat and I struggle through it for the two months of the year that it's actually hot here. My wardrobe isn't exactly bursting with hot weather items, either. I grabbed both these items in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago, both marked down. I'm really into blues lately. Moving out of my nude/black comfort zone.

Since I moved into my new place last week I thought I would share a couple of photos of where it's at so far. I still feel like there's a lot to do but it's getting there.

For now I'm living in there alone. Well, I'm sharing it with Oscar, of course, but no human interaction. It's getting lonely. Hoping to find two roommates to fill the space with some laughter. My TV is being installed tomorrow. My first real TV purchase!

My Sam Edelman Falken Clog Boot's came in today! They arrived at my office and I was giddy with excitement. My worst fears weren't realized, they fit perfectly. I wore an outfit today that I thought would coordinate in hopes they would be released from Canadian customs... and I was right! Totally made my day and I can't wait to experiment. The first outfit is what I wore today at work and to run errands, the second is what I'm wearing tonight to grab some Mexican food and margaritas with friends.

OPI's Gargantuan Green Grape and OPI's What's with the Cattitude?

I've spent the entire weekend in my new house unpacking and organizing. I let myself out for the first time this morning to do some grocery shopping and also stopped by a salon to treat myself to a couple new polishes. I ended up picking some fresh colours (I am trying to branch out from my traditional reds and deeper vamp colours) for summer. While waiting in the car to pick up a friend from a meeting I applied the green shade. It's a bit messy so I'll have to clean it up tonight but you get the idea! Not too impressed with how it went on as it was a bit streaky, but that could also have something to do with the fact I did it at hastily at an awkward angle in my front seat.

Back to unpacking... still lots of clothes to fold.

Just wanted to share some images I have saved of Kate Bosworth. Not only is she beautiful, talented, and effortlessly chic... but she has been involved with some good lookin' men. Most recently my favourite vampire... Alexander Skarsgard. *dreamy sigh* I admire her for her fresh but sophisticated aesthetic and seemingly uncomplicated and personal approach to fashion. Everything she puts on seems so natural and a true reflection of herself.

Here's hoping she'll do another movie soon! But in the mean time I am perfectly satisfied drooling over her closet and bedroom...

Dead Man's Bones is an awesome band made up of actor Ryan Gosling and his friend Zach Shields. Their first album, self titled Dead Man's Bones, was released in October of 2009. Their music is perfect by candlelight with a dry red wine. I love Ryan as an actor, a musician, and from what I gather from his public image as a man. A guy that can nab and keep Rachel McAdams must be pretty exemplary.

Wore this to attend a sales meeting earlier this week and then head out for a business lunch. I've had this dress for 2 years, it's a bit tighter then it used to be, but the quality has really held up and the cut has been proven to be classic. I'm sure I'll be wearing this for years to come. My new earrings have been getting a ton of wear! They feel heavy in my hands but they aren't too weighty in my ears, so no suffering for fashion with these. I do feel a bit too "edgy" when I sport them during the day at work, but why should I hide who I am just because I'm trying to sell you a house? At least I'm being honest that I am not a regular suit-wearing all business realtor! It's important to let your true self shine through. It will attract the sort of people that you'd get a long with, and that's just as important in sales as it is to close a quick deal.

Here's a day to night outfit I wore on Saturday. I had to work during the day but I had a cocktail party to go to afterwards. There wasn't much time to get ready so I just wore the bustier that I wore underneath my blouse, took down my hair and swapped my pink lipstick for something darker! Swapped my larger purse for my new Zara clutch (which I am completely in love with, best $25 I've spent in months!).

I can't believe how long I've gone without posting or logging in to read my bloglist! The real estate market has really picked up the past couple of weeks. I've hardly had time to fit in all 7 cups of coffee I require to get through my work day so I have been MIA from the internet world.

A few things to update about! Firstly, I received my Ray Bans in the mail and they have been getting a lot of wear! I think the shape of the sunglasses somehow suite my face more... I don't know what it is that makes the clear lens feel overpowering. The first day I wore them I was subconscious that everyone was staring at me thinking "Who does she think she is and why does she think she can wear these?" But like with all my fashion risks I powered through and made it work. The compliments started coming in so I'm went with it! Now they feel like a second skin.

ray ban NEW WAYFARER

Ordered some new frames while I was downtown Vancouver today. It's been two years since I bought glasses and though I'm still very happy with my BCBG's it's time for an update. The glasses I wear now are quite understated and while I appreciate that it's fun to mix it up once in a while. I also wear contacts a lot of the time. Come to think of it, I've never posted a photo on here of me with glasses. That will change at the end of this week.

I only had 15 minutes before I had to jet to catch a ferry so it was a really quick process. I originally went in for the Chanel 3135's... but of course they were sold out.

After a quick conversation from the salesman I decided that since I was so in love with my Ray Ban Wayfarers I might as well stick with a good thing and go with those. I wear the black sunglasses but opted for the tortoise eyeglasses. The original Wayfarers are too big for my face (at least I find them to overpowering) so I went again with the "new" wayfarer. To make matters better, it wound up being significantly cheaper going with the Ray Bans.

In and out within 15 minutes! I don't like to waste time. It will be at least a week before I get them. I am so anxious to try them on for size!

I gave my friend her birthday present last night! I'm in Vancouver visiting her. I got us tickets to see MGMT in July at the Commodore (excellent venue). I've encouraged some other friends to grab tickets so I hope they get on that quickly.

The weekend away was perfect! It was spent driving around the island with the windows down on pizza runs, dancing around a bonfire, playing on the rope swing, munching on fresh fruit and singing songs on guitars. 20ish of us crammed in one rustic cabin plus a tent was interesting. After more than a few too many drinks a handful of us had a techno/house/mashup dance party in the kitchen. So much laughter. It's good to get away from everyday stress. Keeps you sane!

I woke up at around 4am on Saturday from the heat and opted to move to my car for some solo slumber for the remainder of the night... the combined chorus of snoring and body heat was too much for me.
